Catching and Fielding

 

Catching/Fielding 8U

    1.   Knees bent, athletic position, glove in front, and belt high

    2.    Move glove to ball, not body.

    3.    As ball moves above belt fingers point up, as ball moves below belt fingers point down.

    4.    If the throw is bad move feet.

Fielding Ground Balls

    1.   Start in athletic position with knees bent, glove in front, and belt high.

    2.    As wind-up starts take one step forward.

    3.    MOVE FEET!

    4.    Call for the ball: “Mine” or “I got it”.

    5.    Field ball

        a.      Middle of your body.

        b.     Feet pointed slightly out.

        c.      Elbows inside knees.

        d.     Out in front of body.

        e.      Glove down.

        f.        Throwing hand on top like “alligator”.

        g.      Back straight.

    6.    Look ball into glove, once ball is fielded pull toward throwing side ear.

    7.    See Throwing 8U.  

 

Fielding Fly Balls

    1.   Start in athletic position with knees bent, glove in front, and belt high.

    2.    As wind-up starts take one step forward.

    3.    Call for the ball: “Mine” or “I got it”.

    4.    MOVE toward the ball with glove down.

    5.    Catch ball fingers up and glove beside head.

    6.    Look ball into glove and close with opposite hand.

    7.    See Throwing 8U.

 

Fielding Ball on the Ground

1.    MOVE FEET!

2.   Position body with belly button over ball.

3.   Field with bare hand.

4.   In case someone missed number three: Field with bare hand!!!!!

5.   Push ball into ground.
